Short bed trucks work well to pull 5th wheel trailers, but they require a sliding hitch like the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Dual Jaw - 18,000 lbs # BWRVK3270 which will work well with your trailer. There are two ways to install a fifth wheel hitch on a pick up truck. One would be to use standard bed-mounted rails. Brackets are mounted to the truck frame with the bed rails sitting directly above. Holes are drilled down through the truck bed to correspond with holes in the brackets bolted to the frame, allowing the bed rails to be securely bolted down. The difference between the two styles of trucks is the standard 8 ft bed is not equipped for a fifth wheel hitch where as the one with a factory rail kit is equipped with pucks in the bed of the truck for a fifth wheel hitch. Just mount a hitch like the Curt Q16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Ford OEM Legs, # C16520-16017, into the pucks in the bed of the truck and you are ready to tow.

The Ranch Hitch part # AM3139 is a great solution for towing a fifth wheel trailer with a truck that has a gooseneck hitch. The advantage to this over the Hi Rise part # 9480 is that the gooseneck hitch in the truck does not matter. As long as there is a 2-5/16 inch ball in the bed of the truck this adapter will fit it.

Long bed trucks like your 2000 Ford F-350 with 8-foot bed naturally have enough turning clearance to use fixed (non-sliding) 5th wheel hitches like the excellent B&W Patriot 18K # BWRVK3255. Shorter bed trucks require a sliding hitch like the Curt E16 # 16516 that you referenced in order to have enough turning clearance to avoid trailer-to-cab contact. The Signature Series Reese hitches are indeed the puck systems. Both installation kits, part 30067 and part # 30074, will fit your 2006 Dodge Ram 2500.
The 30067 will require drilling the truck frame and was made obsolete a while back. The 30074 is a custom designed install kit that will bolt to existing mount locations and clamps around the frame so that no drilling is necessary. The round tube slider will provide 12 inches of front to back travel, compared to 10 inches on a square tube slider. That could provide an extra 2 inches of turning clearance.
A round tube slider will eliminate binding, which seems to allow better movement of the hitch on the slider, as compared to the square tube slider.

The Yakima OverHaul HD Adjustable Truck Bed Ladder Rack # Y01151-5955 is specifically designed to fit tonneau covers like the RetraxPRO XR Hard Tonneau Cover # RTT-80232 with the accessory T-rail on the tonneau cover. That's a really good question, and like you said, the longer length of the Trailair Air Ride 5th Wheel Pin Box - Lippert 1716 LC158777 is only going to matter somewhat with a short bed truck (and even in that case, it wouldn't matter enough to where someone with a short bed truck could get away with using a fixed 5th wheel hitch as opposed to a sliding hitch).

The Brophy Camper Hold-Down Kits # HSSF and # HSBP differ in their finish. The HSBP has a zinc finish while the HSSF has a black powder-coat finish.
Both of these products are intended to fit a broad range of trucks with the exceptions of some double-wall beds, step-side beds, and some dually and import trucks. These fit trucks that have a downward lip on the underside of the bed rail. Bed liners may require trimming in some cases.

I contacted our representative at Brophy about the differences between the Tie Down Anchor, part # TDSF, and the Camper Tie Down, part # HSSF.
Part # TDSF can be used on campers that have a total length of up to 8 feet in length. Part # HSSF can be used on any size campers.
Part # TDSF mounts into the stake pocket, where as part # HSSF mounts over the sidewall of the truck bed.
